Haider Abdul-Hussain

Fundraising Coordinator

Haider’s journey with grief began at an early age, witnessing the devastating impacts of loss through the death of family members and friends. Experiencing how immigration challenges, stigma and financial hardships can complicate grief inspired him to learn more about the healing process. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Haider began facilitating grief support groups the Centre for Grief and Healing – Halton/Peel, which deepened his passion for helping others, particularly marginalized communities, build resilience and navigate their grief.

Eager to ensure that support remains free and accessible, he joined the fundraising committee at the Centre for Grief and Healing – Halton/Peel, where he helped launch multiple impactful initiatives. His dedication eventually led him to serve as Vice-Chair of the board of directors, as the lead member of the governance committee, and as a member of the IDEA committee. Now, Haider brings his warmth and expertise to The Lighthouse as a Fundraising Coordinator, continuing his commitment to ensuring that grief services remain free for his community and beyond.

Haider also serves as a Crisis Responder for Kids Help Phone and volunteers at a local food bank in the Peel region, where he assists with translation and supports families in need. He holds an Honours Bachelor’s in Health Science from the University of Ottawa, where he actively contributed to research projects focused on cancer development through electromagnetic frequencies and the integration of new technologies in surgical procedures. His early passion for innovation and breaking down barriers for marginalized communities continues to drive his commitment to healthcare and community support.
